Earlier in the year I bought a Thai Curry fresh spice packet that had fresh garlic and fresh onion in it (amongst other spices). I noticed that the garlic and onion had tiny healthy roots still on them, so I thought I’d put them into a large pot and see what happens. Sure enough, they sprouted and recently I was able to harvest them!
After a good wash and trim, they were used as the base for a bolognaise sauce. My kids Love spaghetti bolognaise, and I’m happy to report, they wolfed this particular one down too 🙂
It looks like spur-of-the-moment/ winging- it/ throw-it-in-and-see-what-happens kind of gardening can sometimes pay off! So several of the bulbs were saved and put back into the container.
Were they easy enough to grow?

Ridiculously easy!! They were as easy as any bulb plants :). I waited until the leaves ‘flopped over’ for a while and had a check

Good to know they sprout easily – will have to give it a go myself !!

Yes, but remember that I found healthy little roots on them! Normally when you buy them in the store, the roots are either completely cut off or tiny and dead 🙂
