Today’s mini harvest is sweet peas. Again I got my child to pick them which he happily obliged.
We talked through how you can tell when they are ready to be picked (when they are big and fat), and then discussed how we could use it in cooking- in a roast dinner was agreed upon! Demonstrating the concept of ‘garden to plate’ I think is really important in helping kids understand where food comes from and the work it takes to grow it in the first place.
The sweet peas have been popped out of their cases and put into the freezer until we do the next roast dinner. We tasted a few of them and were pleasantly surprised at how sweet they are- like little balls of sugar!
